New Year New You
“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” ~ Carl Bard
It’s that time of year again... people are making their New Year's resolutions - this year maybe you have vowed to make it to the gym more, or to eat more healthily, maybe you have decided that you are going to completely overhaul your diet when the 1st comes around or that you want to start saving more money.... there is something magical about a new year - having a fresh start - a new beginning - where you can turn the page and start a new chapter. Yet, as magical as new beginnings are, research indicates that the majority of New Year's resolutions do not stick. Why? Well because willpower does not work in the long-term to bring about change in our lives. Willpower can only work to bring about lasting change if it is backed up with many small daily habits that support the changes you are looking to make.
So this year - rather than thinking big and planning the whole new you that you want to become... perhaps you can start to think small instead. What small things can you start doing day-to-day that in a year or two will get you to the goals that you want to reach. So perhaps if you want to start eating more healthily - rather than signing up to a drastic new diet plan, maybe just swap out one of your sugary snacks a day for a piece of fruit. So if you want to make it to the gym more - rather than planning an intense weekly training schedule - why not book in that once-a-week Zumba class that you love for a start. Rather than thinking - where do I want to be in a year - ask yourself what small daily habits will get me to where I want to be in a year.
If you would like support in building new habits in the new year - please get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org. The approach I take is unlike other approaches to food and nutrition because rather than encouraging you to drastically overhaul your lifestyle overnight - I help you to make gradual and sustainable changes to your habits - so that this new healthy lifestyle, just becomes your new way of being. I have also recently launched a 12-week-online course in food psychology, which can support you and help you to re-train your mind/thoughts and patterns of behaviour, so that you build a new relationship with food and your body.
So here’s to you in the new year - to your health, happiness and the healthy, sustainable habits that you are going to build!
“No, this is not the beginning of a new chapter in my life; this is the beginning of a new book! That first book is already closed, ended, and tossed into the seas; this new book is newly opened, has just begun! Look, it is the first page! And it is a beautiful one!” — C. JoyBell C.
